Durability of open popliteal artery aneurysm repair

Objective The objective of this study was to analyze our long-term results after open surgery for popliteal artery aneurysm. Methods Records of patients who received surgery between 1998 and 2010 were retrieved from a computerized database and analyzed retrospectively. End points of the study were perioperative mortality and morbidity and patency and limb salvage rate. Background The use of vascular grafts is indicated in case of insufficient pedicle length or for complex defects involving both soft tissues and vessels. Venous grafts (for both venous and arterial reconstructions) and arterial grafts (arterial reconstruction) can be used. External stenting with a new polyester mesh reduces neointimal hyperplasia of vein grafts in a sheep model.

Objective External stents placed around vein grafts have demonstrated effectiveness in reducing neointimal hyperplasia by preventing distension of the thin-walled vein grafts when exposed to arterial pressure. Abstract Objectives This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of external polyester scaffolding in infrainguinal bypass grafting when available vein material is suboptimal due to varicosity or dilatation. Free Flaps for Anterior Chest Wall Reconstruction

Reconstruction of full-thickness chest wall defects usually entails the use of regional pedicled myocutaneous flaps as first-choice option. As defect complexity increases and local options are not available, microsurgical reconstruction is required to transfer reliable and well-vascularized tissues from distant sites. Size, anatomic location, presence of dead spaces, and extent of eventual bone defect should be assessed for proper selection of the flap. Regional recipient vessels should be previously identified and checked in order to consider alternatively the need of extension of distant recipient vessels through arteriovenous (AV) loops or vein graft interposition.
